Hand-Painted Wearable Art Handbag

For the woman who doesn’t want to see her bag on everyone else’s arm.

The Chelsea starts with a blank 34" × 18" piece of soft cream canvas.

Before it ever becomes a handbag, I create the art.

That canvas gives me more than four square feet of space to paint by hand. Using rich chocolate tones, I build layers of abstract blocks, lines, markings and brushstrokes directly onto the canvas, allowing the natural texture of the fabric to become part of the artwork.

Nothing is digitally printed or reproduced.

Every mark and brushstroke comes from my hand.

Once the artwork is complete, I take that original 34" × 18" painted canvas and begin transforming it into The Chelsea.

The canvas is cut, shaped and constructed into the finished handbag, then detailed with two individually constructed statement pockets across the front. Each pocket features its own hand-painted artwork, flap and button detail, adding both function and another layer of character to the design.

A genuine leather handle completes the exterior, while the inside is fully lined and finished with an interior pocket.

What began as a blank canvas becomes an original piece of art you can carry.

The Chelsea is a signature handbag style that I can create again.

I can recreate the shape. I can add the two statement front pockets. I can return to the same soft cream canvas and rich chocolate color story.

But I cannot duplicate the artwork.

Because every block, line, marking and brushstroke is created individually by hand, I can't place each detail in exactly the same position twice.

One mark may be darker. A line may take a different direction. The texture may appear differently. And once the painted canvas is cut, folded and constructed, different portions of the artwork will naturally become part of the finished handbag.

Those differences aren't mistakes.

They're what make each Chelsea an original.

So yes, another woman may own The Chelsea.

But she won't own your Chelsea.

WEARABLE ART

The Chelsea isn't a handbag made from fabric with artwork printed onto it.

The canvas itself is the artwork.

I start with a blank 34" × 18" canvas. I paint it. I cut it. I shape it, and then I construct that original artwork into a handbag.

With The Chelsea, even the two front pockets become part of the artwork. They aren't simply added for function they give me another place to continue the story of the painted canvas.

That's why I call what I create wearable art.

The process begins the same way a painting does with a blank canvas, paint, an idea and my hands.

The difference is that instead of hanging this canvas on your wall, you get to carry it.
