The Handbags That Made Me an Artist

The Handbags That Made Me an Artist

I still remember the very first handbags I made. They were nice—really nice. And the moment I held them in my hands, I knew I was an artist. Something clicked. Something felt right. Every bag had its own personality, its own little story, and every time someone picked one up, I felt like I was sharing a piece of myself.

What’s wild is that I didn’t start in some fancy fashion studio or big workshop. My beginning was humble and creative—inside a room in my parents’ home. But when my handbags were chosen to be in a small artist store in the mall, where every item was handmade by dreamers just like me, everything changed. That space was magic. Nothing in that store came off a factory line. Every shelf held someone’s imagination. Every corner whispered inspiration.

When customers walked in and held my bags, and purchased my jewelry, they didn’t just see a product—they saw the hands behind the work. They saw art. They saw effort. They saw me. And when those first few people purchased my bags and jewelry, something in me shifted. It wasn’t just validation; it was confirmation.

I knew right then that this wasn’t just a hobby.
It was a gift.

And that first little space in the mall—surrounded by artists who were carving out their own version of success—became my beginning. My training ground. My place of becoming.

Those early bags laid the foundation for everything Angelique Collections is today. And even now, after years of growth, learning, and evolution, I still feel that same spark every time I create something new.

What started with a few nice bags created from what I had around the house, such as newspaper, magazines, and fabric, and a small artist store in the mall, has grown into a journey I’m still walking—one stitch, one design, and one dream at a time.
